5 week old no poop for 48hrs+

He's hungry but simply will not poo. He's getting uncomfortable with it. We've tried massages, Windi......

What do we do?!

48hours is a long time, at 5 weeks old I'd be contacting 111 and getting some medical advice/medicine to help. Is baby having wet nappies? Its very hot out and babies are especially at risk of dehydration.

Massage his tummy in an arc shape from left to right every few hours.

Sit yourself up on the sofa with your feet on sofa and knees bent so dc is lying with his head at your knees and his legs facing your tummy. Leave nappy off so he has more flexibility but put a towel underneath him

Cycle his legs and also gently rub his and with a damp cloth as that can stimulate expulsion.

Do this several times a day but be prepared for a snake of poo!

Is he breastfed? If so this is normal.

Yep plenty of wet nappies and cool at night as I run the air con on low in the room

I think my bottle fed baby did this a few times but it always came in the end. Have you tried sitting baby on your lap and supporting him to lean forward as if you are burping ? Holding him in that position might help. We have a fisher price rocking chair that vibrates and that is pretty effective at getting my baby to poo these days as is the car seat (without fail! ) I personally wouldn’t worry too much so long as he seems fine in himself and having bottles etc but you know your baby best!

48 hours isn't a long time if they're breastfed. Mine went five days once!

Formula. It's basically 3 days now.

He's very upset and straining which is the reason it's bothering us mostly

My LO once went NINE DAYS. Can you imagine the poosplosion??

I read the title and reminded dh about when one of our twins was around 5 weeks. She too only pooed every 4-5 days and when she did it was a poonami! She a healthy strong 10 year old now so for her, it was normal.

My 5 week old is formula fed and is going through the same issue - massages and bicycle legs did nothing. We went to the doctors and they prescribed lactulose as they believed she was constipated as she was producing a lot of wind and they could see she was bloated. If you haven't been to the doctors already I would recommend doing so. I hope your little one is more comfortable now.

Google "poop button baby". This worked for MANY a constipated daycare baby ( our center took in babies at 4 weeks)

I used infacol when mines were younger, this defo helped with their poos:-)
