Looking for some advice on what to do for my 4 year old child as she has a very red eye. It started yesterday and looked slightly blood shot a a few bits of yellow gunk at the sides. The bits of gunk were small and the redness wasn't too bad. I suspected conjunctivitis but my nephew had a similar looking eye the week before and it only lasted a day then disappeared so I thought I would wait and see how it is today. She's woken up this morning with it much redder and the eye looks a big saggy. No gunk at all though. What am I best to do? I know conjunctivitis would be the pharmacist but I'm not 100 percent sure that what it is so would a optometrist be best? Or a doctor? TIA

Bathe it regularly with cooled boiled water, I don't think treating conjunctivitis medically actually significantly shortens the duration.

Cooled boiled water and bathe.

Wipe from inside to out and clean pad for each wipe.

If it's not getting better pharmacist can give advice and either give something OTC or suggest who to see.

Brilliant, thank you both. I will do that today and see how it goes

The pharmacist can sell you the drops if it is conjunctivitis. My 4 year old daughter suddenly got it on a Saturday. They can't sell it to under 2s (my 18month needed an out of hours doctor to write a prescription).
