5 Week Old Rash

Jambo22 · 01/07/2022 12:31

Hello!

My 5 week old has a rash that comes up on his chin, neck and chest. I've already been to the Dr's about it - they thought it was dry skin and gave some zerobase emollient cream.
Temp is fine, have rolled a glass over it and it disappears. This rash tends to go away (not completely disappear can still see bits but not as red or big) and come back. Anyone had anything similar?
Was wondering if it's maybe a reaction to something instead.

Oh that looks nasty 😭

Is he slavering? Milk dripping onto baby grow?
Have you changed laundry stuff?

HSKAT · 01/07/2022 12:35

It actually looks like how my sons eczema started

Jambo22 · 01/07/2022 12:48

He's not slavering and I did wonder at first if we weren't catching the milk fast enough if it got past his bib but we've been pretty conscious of it and it hasn't changed.
We haven't changed the laundry detergent but I'll maybe wash some of his stuff in something different and see if that helps.
I've called the Dr again so just waiting on a call back

They should be asking you to take him in to see them giving his age so try get in

Is it bothering him? Is he well? Usually if a rash comes and goes you can hang on to see whether it becomes clear as to what the cause is or disappears.

Does it appear after feeds?

It doesn't seem to be bothering him and he is well. He does sneeze and cough every now and again but isn't bunged up or anything.

I've been wondering if it's happening after feeds but he's feeding so frequently at the moment it's hard to tell. It doesn't appear in the first few minutes after the feed if it's faded. Those pictures were maybe 1 hour 30 mins after a feed from 2 different feeds this morning.

Possibly an allergy?

The Dr thinks something is irritating him so we've got a more sensitive laundry detergent and we'll see how it goes! A whole bunch of washing to get dry now 😅

They did give some cream with an antibiotic as they thought it was starting to get infected.

Hopefully it clears up soon & it doesn't start to bother him!
