10 year old - first period

My 10 year old daughter is having her first period.
I’ve already spoken to the doctor last week as it was insanely heavy for the first 3 days, changing her pad every hour and lots and lots of clots.

She has been bleeding for 14 days now, I don’t know if I should ring the doctor back to let them know that it still hasn’t finished yet.
She is lighter but is having a mix or red and brown blood.

Unfortunately heavy periods are common in my family, my periods last 7/8 days, sometimes I’ve even been on for 10 so I knew my daughter would have the same issues and we are all early starters but I’m still concerned about the length of time she has been on.

WWYD?

Hi, didn’t want to read and run, but don’t have any answers. Sounds extraordinarily heavy and I’m so sorry for both you and your daughter to have to suffer through that. I think I’d call them back if it’s still going. Hope she is ok.
My 9 year old daughter just started hers today, which is why was in here.

good luck with it all! 💞

I would recommend speaking to her GP about it. It’s probably nothing of concern but best to err on the safe side as she’s quite young.

Dd started her periods at 9, I spoke to her GP as it seemed very early. (Although she was wearing a training bra, she’s average height/build and I didn’t start until 12.)
The GP reassured me it was normal but said if we had any concerns (eg frequent, very heavy or painful periods) we should call.

I’m due to speak to them again as dd’s last three periods have been within 2-3 weeks of each other, so more than one a month.

Good luck - dd is coping well though its no fun being the only one in her year at school who has started, she feels quite self conscious.
