Weird spots around grazed knee

Ds fell over a last weekend and grazed his knee, morning after the graze had turned into a yellow spot. I put a plaster on and it drew out some yellow and started to heel. A day later he fell again, grazing the same knee but a bigger graze. I cleaned it up and popped a plaster on. 2 days later he comes out of school with a new plaster on, saying it had been pussing. We get home and I have a look, there are several spots around the graze that look crusty yellow with another few yellow spots. I've been and got him some antiseptic cream which I've been putting on twice a day, but has anyone got any ideas what it could be? Is it worth seeing the gp?

Yes that needs looking at. Looks a little like impetigo.

Looks like it could be impetigo likely from bacteria that's entered through the cut. See a pharmacist or gp for some antibiotic cream.

ds had it once, it presented similarly to this with small yellow spots and it cleared up very quickly with cream and didn't need oral antibiotics.

Thankyou for your replies. @Userno63638272725 did you go to the pharmacy or did you see the gp?

I’d start with the pharmacy, but go to GPif that doesn’t work

Arucanafeather · 26/06/2022 20:15

Personally I would go straight to GP. If your GP surgery does it, you can fill in a. Online form now and attach photo and they’ll call you back tomorrow morning.

I rang 111 as it was the weekend, doctor rang and based on description and that DS's friend had it too and likely passed it on, prescribed over the phone. I was told a reoccurrence was likely but it's never happened..

I have since read that pharmacist can help, it might be that pharmacists can give the cream but not the oral antibiotics if needed. I'm not certain, sorry!

if I were you, I'd just contact your gp practice in the morning and go from there! ☺️

Yeah I think I'll give the gp a ring first thing and hopefully they'll be happy for me to send a picture and do a telephone call as ds will be at school and I'll be at work.

Hi,

My little one has grazed his knee and had a plaster on for the first time, he then got this little spots come up around the scab. Doctors weren't too concerned and couldn't say exactly what is was. Has anyone seen this before? I'm wondering whether he's allergic to plasters, he does suffer from eczema and sensitive skin.
