Rectal prolapse 4 year old?

I think my DS who is 4 might have a rectal prolapse. He is just starting potty training and doing really well so far. Tonight he was doing a poo on the potty and said some poo was stuck halfway out but when I went to help him it was very dark red and felt like tissue and not poo and wouldn’t come out.

I panicked a bit and rang 111 but when I was on hold he said it had gone away and it had so I hung up as they were very busy.

He has been doing lots of very small mucousy poos in the last couple of days. I thought he had a bit of a bug but don’t know if it is connected to this?

I am going to call my GP on Monday (unless it comes back before then in which case I will call 111 back). Just wondered if anyone had any experience or knowledge or advice? Thank you 😊

what happened after ?

Yes just seen this - it never came back. Went to the GP on the Monday who asked us to monitor bowel movements for a week and then go back. All was fine and it has never happened again. I was terrified at the time but thankful it has seemed to resolve itself.

This happened to us when he was constipated. I am terrified of toilet sit and constipation. How many cm did it come out ?
