My DS really struggles to hear at times. Usually when he is congested which seems to be about three weeks out of each month given the germs he always has from nursery! He literally looks at me waiting for me to repeat myself and read my lips. Drs have looked in his ears before and said they’re waxy. What can I do? My DH has chronic sinus issues and terrible hearing and I worry he will be the same! Anyone in the same boat?

Ask for a hearing test - may have glue ear.

Have they referred him for a hearing test and an ENT review?

If he does have constant glue ear then push for grommets, a friend with poor hearing did this for her child, she said the cost to him of losing social skills, language fluency and confidence was too much . The consultant agreed and it made a huge difference to her boy, this was a few years ago though, things might not be so easy these days.

Wow I didn’t know about this! It’s causing issues now nursery think he isn’t listening! I’ll go back to the GP and then use our private medical insurance I think thank you!

My dd had temporary on/off hearing issues at that age, dr said it wasn't glue ear but did have a wax build up. Chemist said to use the olive oil drops they sell which worked, maybe speak to pharmacist/gp about it. We also took her for a hearing test which was fine.
