Chicken pox is everywhere by us at the moment and I'm taking my little one to get vaccinated this morning

Except he's got a spot either side of his mouth this morning? Is this chicken pox? Sad

Doesn't look like CP, have they been exposed to it?

ghoulie · 16/06/2022 09:35

There's a chance it's going round nursery and just the local area in general, no direct exposure that we're aware of but possibly

I'm so worried about getting him vaccinated now what happens if this is the start of chicken pox and then I'm giving him a live vaccine? He's fine in himself very happy. Just these two spots on his face,

Any on the soles of his feet or hands? Could be hand, foot and mouth...that spreads round nursery like wildfire.

ghoulie · 16/06/2022 10:11

Nope none, he's had hand foot and mouth before when it went around nursery, not going around as far as I know but chicken pox definitely is!

It's hard to say op . Whenever my kids have had chicken pox and unfortunately they've had it more than once, the spots have always had a head on them. It looks more like excema to me. Have you given any acidic fruits or maybe tomatoes

Cheerybigbottom · 16/06/2022 10:31

Check scalp, behind ears

My son started out on his face, scalp and front overnight and then sat two back, legs and arms. Some immediately had a blister top, some were a slightly raised red spot and came to a blister head over the day or next day.

Chickenpox is absolutely everywhere, i would not think the vaccination clinic will want a child with cp in the surgery but it's worth calling them to say he has two spots and it's possible, do they want you to come in?

picklemewalnuts · 16/06/2022 10:33

I'd expect them on back or tummy first. And if they are, a few more will pop up quickly so keep checking.
There will soon be a tiny bubble on the top if it's CP.

Wheretheskyisblue · 16/06/2022 10:37

Has he been sleeping with the window open/could they be insect bites? My son's chicken pox presented more as a cluster of spots rather than isolated ones.

rootedhere · 16/06/2022 10:39

Check in his hair for spots on his scalp and in any 'warm' areas, in my experience CP always come out in nappy area/ scalp first.

ghoulie · 16/06/2022 10:42

He generally get spots on his face quite often and it does look like that usually does, it was just the fact there was 2.

Dd currently has chicken pox, retrospectively she had a couple of spots the day before I realised because she’s really prone to heat rashes. Further spots sprouted pretty quickly over night and have continued to come up.

given you’re in an area with it going round I’d run on the side of caution and cancel the vaccine or at least ring the provider for advice. I know by me the appointments are few and far between, we’ve been trying to arrange a convenient one since Christmas in between making sure it doesn’t affect visits to my eol dad because it’s a live vaccine. Redundant now though!

I’m sorry to gatecrash the thread - I thought it better to ask here than start more threads. my daughter has got 3 spots like this that have come up today. Does it look like CP? I think it does but it’s 10+ years since one of my other kids had this.

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 21:00

I think it does too @MondaysChild7

Anon778833 · 16/06/2022 21:01

Right, I’ll quarantine her then. Time to buy calamine lotion I suppose.

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 21:14

We’re very retro back in isolations and quarantines aren’t we? Grin (I’m crying behind that smile!)

miester · 16/06/2022 22:06

Jumping on too?

Cornettoninja · 16/06/2022 22:21

Is there more than one @mister. Some of my DD’s spots could have been mistaken for bites/stinging nettle bumps at the start of them.
