Hi all, would appreciate some advice.
DS was 6 weeks premature but due to failed placenta he was tiny 1.6kg. He was in NIC for a month after birth and it was noted that one of his testicles was yo-yoing although mostly missing. Was told would straighten itself out.
It largely did and only occasionally over the years did it yo-yo.
When he was 10, he had a torsion in the same testicle but luckily it untangled just before we got to A&E. The consultant we saw just said to return straight to A&E within 6 hours if it reoccurs. Which it didn't.
As DS got older and less averse to wearing clothes, I obviously couldn't discreetly keep an eye on the situation so I asked him to keep to check twice a day for a week or two to note if it's resolved. He came back to me to say it was swollen on and off but quite badly swollen when it was but no pain
We got a GP appointment as soon as we could and explained the problem and his history. Due to the amount of swelling the GP couldn't examine the testicle and has referred DS for an ultrasound. He was very surprised that DS hadn't had the operation to resolve this.
All this happened at the end of last week so we're waiting for the ultrasound appointment but I'm really quite concerned as the swelling looks significant and I'm worried the testicle might be liable to twist again.
I'm thinking that this operation should have been done when the torsion happened at 10 with his history? I'm worried the hospital will want to leave it again. I want to be informed and know what to expect or ask for when we do have the consultation if anyone can give me any pointers to articulate my strength of feeling about this.
As much as I obviously don't want my DS to have an operation, I think it is the correct course of action.
Can anyone reassure me or give advice please? Thank you.
