Diarrhoea lasting 4 weeks after stomach bug - is this normal?

hi all,

Looking for some advice really.

On 14 May (4 weeks ago) my DS (2.4 years old) came down with some sort of stomach bug. He vomited twice in the night and then had diarrhoea. The vomiting stopped after that night however the diarrhoea has persisted. He would usually go once a day before this and the texture was mushy or paste like (rarely formed). However since the stomach bug he now goes 3 times a day and it is very loose, watery, bitty like with bits of undigested food, mucousy and very foul smelling. He leaks through his nappy a lot too now. Other than this he is okay in himself and very happy.

We sent off a stool sample earlier this week and have a call with GP next week. But I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their child, and if it’s normal for diarrhoea to go on for this long?

Have you looked up toddler diarrhoea? It is quite common after a stomach bug.

I’ll have a look thanks! Does it last long?

It can last a long time but GP recommended I gave them a poo sample to send off when my kids were toddlers and one of them had this. Just to be sure.
