Kids who get Croup Cough are they fine when they go swimming?

DS has had croup the third time round, he's almost five in a few months. This time and last it went away without needing steroid. With the weather being nice, I was thinking to go swimming but concerned if the little one is fine to go along too, or if he may develop croup after swimming? usually croup can last untill 8 years of age, like recurring bouts. I know its caused from viruses, so wondering if they are more at risk to pick up viruses from pool?

Any tips to avoid the repeated bouts of croup? thanks

Dd gets croup cough and swims multiple times a week. I dont find any link between the cough and swimming

An hour (or longer) is fine - my issue is getting dd out of the pool!

Croup is the inflammation of the airway in response to the cold virus, it's nothing to do with swimming so you can take him if you want :) My kids get most of their viruses from school/nursery. At that age there's no need to limit swimming time, just go until you get bored or tired.

Thanks, nice to know that an hour is fine, otherwise it doesn't seem worth going

thanks @BertieBotts is there anything to prevent repeated croup bouts, DS has had 3. I was giving him a vitamin a day, but then I ran out and didn't get any more. I'm thinking if he starts eating better and takes a good multivitamin to make immune system stronger, then hopefully he wont get it again,. but I heard kids who get croup, do get it again and again...

You just have to wait for them to grow out of it, but it's not dangerous, it just sounds horrible.

DS1 used to get it until he was about 6. DS2 has never had it. DS3 has had it twice.

The best thing you can do is to try and ensure he's fit and healthy so the swimming should help long term.

I know croup can be scary (ds2 has repeated bouts and is now suspect asthmatic) but if your ds hasn't needed steroids the last couple of times then he's doing pretty well
