Virus - anyone had similar?

My seven year old son has been unwell since Monday. Symtoms are fever, feeling generally unwell and puffy/swollen eyes. Sought Doctors advice on Wednesday but couldn't actually see doctor (its all done through a call back system thing over the telephone) and she said it was a virus and to keep giving Calpol and plenty of fluids....since then he has not got any better, still hot to touch, eyes puffy/swollen and I just wondered if anyone had had similar or think it may be something else. Virus seems a bit of a cop-out to me but maybe not?

If the fever's gone in that long I'd go back to the doctor. My DD had similar and turned out she had a UTI ( although think she had a cold at the same time). Only other time she had a fever that long was when she had Covid so may be worth checking for that if you've got any tests.

Yes we have done a Covid test just to rule that out and was negative...

My 6 year old has had a fever now for 11 days, we've been to the doctors and even a&e. She's had neck ache, ear ache and hearing loss. Her hearing has come back now.

I have been told that a fever will assist in attacking the virus therefore only give Calpol if the child is uncomfortable. I'm trying that but am still going to go back to the doctors tomorrow. The same as with you I have been told it's a virus and the same as you I feel this is a cop out.
I would take your child to the doctors or walk in centre for peace of mind at least.

Phoning 111 and speaking to a doctor over the phone got my daughter misdiagnosed previously so i refuse to go down that path now.
