Same lymph nodes going up and down

Hi everyone,
Just looking for some reassurance or experiences really. My DD nearly 2, had swollen lymph nodes behind one of her ears a few months back. Went to our GP who said they were probably from a virus and would shrink. They did shrink, but now she has another cold and the same lymph nodes appear to be up again. Just wondering if it is normal for the same lymph node to swell up and down like that? My DD is otherwise totally well. Thanks in advance mums ☺️

It is very normal for lymph nodes to swell up during active infection.

If they don't go down after the infection has cleared then see GP again.

Thanks for your reply - I think I am concerned because it seems to be the same lymph node that swells up and down, but perhaps it is just more reactive than the others.

Yes my son did - he was sent for blood tests and all was fine. I think it's pretty normal!

Thanks wineandsunshine - you mean you son had one lymph node that kept going up and down?

As long as he is an otherwise well child and it is settling in between infections then It is fine. Things like lymphoma (which I am assuming is what you are worrying about here) cause persistent/ non-settling lymphadenopathy.

My daughter had permanently large lymph nodes as a toddler and GP not even remotely concerned. She is fit and healthy adult now. My son had nodes that were up and down regularly. It’s a sign that the immune system is doing its job .
Maybe see GP if you need reassurance.X

Thanks everyone, she is very well otherwise so will keep an eye and go back to GP if needs be ☺️
