Baby's head sweats profusely when feeding does all babies?

DS 7mo. The sweat that comes out of his head is shocking to me. He has had a thick head of hair since birth so i thought it was that? But not I'm not sure. I have to dab his brow and the sides of his face and around the back of his neck as he is feeding

He is BF which is when it happens mostly so it could just be skin to skin but I have to wear long sleeve tops or cover my arm with something when he's resting to feed because it will run down one side onto his face and annoys him or wakes him dozing

Really not sure if it is normal or not but I'm a ftm with no one to ask
His temp is fine. In fact, his little ears are freezing, shoulders, neck and the rest of his body is cold too just not his head

I would speak to your health visitor about this tbh. Does he feed well? Is his colour good and his breathing ok while feeding?

crispsandwichplease · 23/05/2022 22:39

Sounds like something worth asking your health visitor or GP about. Not something I've experienced or know to be normal.

twoandcooplease · 23/05/2022 23:18

Yes feeds absolutely perfectly. Has suffered from constipation a lot could that cause sweating?
Since I've started giving him purées, porridge etc he is pooing 'normal' as opposed to it always being an explosion in every nappy. So I don't think he's suffering from constipation now and doesn't have a sore tummy etc. wind passing fine now but it hadn't been and I'd been using infacol often. I thought the sweating would stop if it was constipation but nappy's great today and still at that feed his hair was ringing but by the end of the feed he'd stopped sweating and was cold again

No other problems or concerns. He is growing great. Development brilliant. Very bright and meeting all milestones.

I'm going to check in with HV tomorrow. Thanks for giving my head a wobble x

We used to call my ds Mr Sweaty Head, he grew out of it thank god, not sure how his girlfriend would cope otherwise. Lol

twoandcooplease · 23/05/2022 23:36

That's funny @brokengoalposts
Tbh I could probably be called 'miss sweaty head'. I have loads of hair and it's hard to describe how thick every strand is. And there's so much of it my scalp is like a furnace. It must be 40 degrees to the touch

My DS probably just gets it from me. I'll not worry too much yet. Thank you for reassuring Grin

Nope my baby never had that. Ask GP.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/05/2022 23:43

Mine did, and they didn’t have thick hair - they were little baldies! Don’t think it’s anything to worry about (but am no expert).

TippledPink · 23/05/2022 23:45

I get very sweaty very easily, if my head was against a hot body for too long I think I would be dripping with sweat too! I wouldn't be worried.

user375242 · 23/05/2022 23:49

Yes mine all did, like buckets of sweat, I seem to remember it peaking around that age. I remember licking DS because I read that excess swearing was a symptom of cystic fibrosis or something like that, and if it was that the sweat would be salty. After I had confessed this to DH he reminded me that they test for it at the heel prick, so licking wasn't necessary 😂.

twoandcooplease · 24/05/2022 00:12

@user375242 I have to admit I've tasted it too...
although, I never licked him! Grin haha you have cheered me right up thank you

Here's to all the hot tot's Bear

Yeah, two baldies who sweated like beasts when feeding (or sleeping, or just doing anything really!).

Herbyhippo · 24/05/2022 06:14

Yes two of mine sweated loads whilst feeding. Dd didn’t. So I think it’s just some babies. Funnily Dh gets really hot and I can wear jumpers in summer, so I guess dd takes after me.

MyDD was born in a heatwave and we both dripped with sweat during a feed. To me it sounds quite normal.
