She doesn't seem any better

Dd aged 6 began throwing up on Sunday 15th May. All of last week she has had sickness and diarrhoea.
Her poo has been a really pale yellow colour and smells awful, like really awful. It looks really shiny or mucusy and tends to float on the surface. Also tmi but any thats such to side of bowl will not flush, water just gliding over it.
She has been complaining of a stomachache for a few weeks which seems to have intensified over the past week and she tells me it is sore when I touch her tummy, just below her belly button. It feels soft when I've pressed it.
She broke out in hives yesterday, however these went down with some antihistamines.
This morning I was going to try and send her back to school, however she became hysterical, fighting me off. She is continuing to complain of terrible tummy pains. She's had a bowel movement today, still as described above and was last sick in the yearly hours of yesterday so it has been going on over a week now.
Appetite has reduced, however still eating small amounts and drinking ok.
Tried to get appt with GP this morning, however they had none and I need to try again tomorrow morning to get an emergency appt.
I dont know what else to do. Does anyone have any experience of symptoms like this and/or cause?

That seems to be a very long time for a tummy bug - they usually go within 48 hours or so.
Could it be food poisoning?
Is she eating and drinking?
If she still has D&V you can't send her back to school!

Can you ring 111 to get advice - they ight be able to get you an emergency appointment elsewhere.

Has she ever had a blood test for coeliac disease? It can cause poo issues like that and an 'itchy, blistering rash, known as dermatitis herpetiformis. It may begin with an intense burning sensation around the elbows, knees, scalp, buttocks, and back'.

Obviously I am not a medical professional, but my son has coeliac.

HSKAT · 23/05/2022 12:35

Too long for a generic stomach bug.
Can you ring GP back and ask for a stool and urine sample pots ahead of getting an app to save some time?

Agree with this. I have coeliac and her stools sound familiar. I’d try and get a blood test to rule it out - sounds too long for a stomach bug.

I think it warrants and urgent GP appointment

katnyps · 23/05/2022 13:32

Are her eyes yellowing or is she showing any of the other hepatitis symptoms? Definitely GP or A&E if you can't see GP today.

Endofmytether2020 · 24/05/2022 11:17

How is she doing today? Did you get an appointment?

shinebright87 · 24/05/2022 11:24

Sorry all for later reply.
Yes she was seen by GP this morning. GP thinks it's it viral gastroenteritis, she checked her over and said everything look OK and that she is now probably at the tail end of the virus and should get better over the coming days.
She had diarrhoea yesterday but no more sickness since Sunday. To keep an eye on her and any other concerns I've to take her back.

We had similar symptoms which turned out to be cryptosporidium. Possibly picked up from swimming pool we aren’t sure. He was Really unwell for about a week and took about a month to be back to full strength. A stool sample would confirm this sort of thing

Lupyto · 24/05/2022 11:34

He had hives when he had it too. In the evening especially. Never had hives before with sickness bug. And really painful stomach cramps.

This sounds so similar. I am keeping her off school for rest of the week and hopefully she will be fit to go back next week.
I think I will try and get a stool sample handed into gp just to have it checked out.
My older daughter started throwing up yesterday, I'm just hoping she doesn't get it quite as bad.

Sounds like giardiasis. Stool sample a must for both daughters! Hope they are well again soon.

Lupyto · 24/05/2022 13:37

Yeah it does sound oddly similar to when my son had cryptosporidium. It was quite a stressful time as he was really unwell. He was 7 years old at the time. I think a normal bug is really over after 48 hours. He had hives if I remember rightly for about 3 nights in a row roughly. It was his body clearing the bugs from his system in some way. You may find that a stool sample will show up negative at this stage as she may have cleared it already. But they do recover eventually, thankfully.

Lupyto · 24/05/2022 13:42

Ok thought the nhs guidance was recommended a stool sample if diarrhoea lasts more than a certain number of days

Lougle · 24/05/2022 13:42

DD1 & DD2 had a really violent D&V bug a couple of weeks ago. Diarrhoea lasted 5 days and it was like liquid gold. Vile.

Lupyto · 24/05/2022 13:48

Just looked it up I think it’s after 7 days they do stool sample

anothernamedoesntsmellsosweet · 24/05/2022 20:33

My DD had crypto spyridium too when she was about 2. She had jelly like faeces for a month or so. She was really unwell. The environmental health team thought it came from the local pool

Quartz2208 · 25/05/2022 08:11

I think it is going around. We had something similar - DH was knocked out for 3-4 days and DS for just over a week
