Chest retractions

Hi
My daughter has had a couple of bouts of croup, viral wheeze etc. We've always been told to look out for retractions.

I've noticed when she's crying her chest sinks right in around the breast bone. Is this normal? As soon as she's calmed down she's fine. She really gasps and her chest seems up suck in quite remarkably but as I say, only when she's upset.

Thanks
