DS(13) had a major operation 4 weeks ago and his blood Hb is 8.5. The surgeon has seen him post op and is happy with this and doesn't want to prescribe iron as DS also has had a few stomach irritation issues in the past.
Any idea how long it will take for his levels to rise again? it was good before the op and he didn't need an additional transfusion, just some of the blood during the operation transfused back.
I'm giving him normal meals with red meat once a day. Egg mayonaisse sandwich once a day and a spinach smoothie (which he forces down). Also has once a day vitamin C 1 gram.
He feels a bit lethargic and looks pale, but I am happy for him not to have a transfusion, but wonder how long he can go before it recovers.
