Rash after chicken pox vaccine

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced having a rash after chicken pox vaccine in their little ones?

My 2 year old was vaccinated 7 days ago against chicken pox. Yesterday I noticed a couple of spots and more have appeared this morning. One is a blister but most others are just small pin pricks at this stage.

However there have also been sporadic outbreaks of chicken pox at her nursery recently, although none confirmed yet in her actual room. So there is a chance she was exposed to the virus before she got the vaccine.

So I'm not sure whether the rash is a side effect of the vaccine (apparently 1 in 10 experience this side effect) or the actual pox?

Has anyone had an experience of a rash as a side effect they are able to tell me about?

FWIW I've kept her off nursery today.

Sorry I'm not sure but curious to know is this the UK? I wasn't aware that 2 year olds can get a chicken pox vaccination.

When I got my vaccine I didn’t get a rash, but I was advised that if I did that is potentially contagious and should stay away from vulnerable groups.

@PinkButtercups the chickenpox vaccine isn’t on the NHS schedule, but children over 12 months and adults can have it privately at most high street pharmacies.

Yes I'm in the UK. Paid around £80 to have it privately at a pharmacy.

Not sure if I should waste another £80 on the booster!

Hey, wondering how this developed. I'm in the same situation and due to fly on holiday on Saturday...

Same happened to us. She had been exposed just before she was vaccinated. Couple of spots came up but nothing more so we have presumed reaction rather than chicken pox, and now need to book the booster.

That's good to know, thank you. She had the vaccine 10 days ago, and since Sunday evening we've had about 5 spots come up. Just red not fluid

Hi, I'm sorry I just saw this. It turned into full blown CP so my guess is she was exposed over a week before the vaccine. So not bothering with the booster!

Hope your little one is ok x
