Reoccurring Balantis - any ideas/suggestions welcome

4 year old DS ended up in a&e with a swollen penis as he was struggling to go to the loo he was diagnosed with balantis (an infection) and given some anti fungal cream. The cream didn’t work so went to gp who thought it might be bacterial so gave us penicillin which seemed to clear it up. It came back about a week later. After another trip to the gp we were given antibiotic cream and a back up prescription for penicillin. The cream stopped it getting worse but didn’t seem to be clearing it, he has now been back on the penicillin for a few days and it looked like it had worked but I have just noticed it is looking red again while he was in the bath. The gp thinks it might be eczema causing it (he doesn’t have it anywhere else although he does have really dry skin).
has anyone any experience of this or any suggestions, ds seems ok at the moment but when it flares up the poor boy is miserable and walking is painful.

My son had to have a frenulplasty, as it was literally the only thing that was going to stop the recurring balanitis.
Ask for a referral to a urologist.

Thank you - I was told by the GP he had to have 5 occurrences before they would refer, it looks like it is flaring up again so that will be 3 times in just over a month - I will push for a referral again.
