Not sure how best to help/address issue of weight in a young child. Not my child but step child.

Unsure of actual weight as not weighed them, but definitely overweight for age. 6 but wearing age 9-10 and even this is quite tight.

How likely is it that they will just grow out of it? At what point does something more need to be done?

There are some changes being made e.g fruit for puddings/snacks instead of other stuff. But they do eat quite big portions I would say, again we are changing this with us, but unsure what their mum gives them. Also unsure how strictly she sticks to alternatives tor snacks etc. we have very little control over that side of things.

I am worried if weight continues to be added they are going to end up with health issues because of it. They are quite active at times (do some clubs, will ride bike/walk/play out with siblings) but also quite happy to sit watching TV or iPad/switch for quite long periods of time also. My DC at 6 would never have sat watching things for as long as they do.

They don't really play unless being played with, don't play with toys or amuse themself other than TV/screens. That's ok here because we have other kids, at their mums though they are an only child, so I imagine unless they are playing together or out somewhere a lot of time is just spent sitting in the house.
