Has anyone used this on their child for tonsillitis? My daughter has had tonsillitis for 5 days so far and was admitted on sat with dehydration. We're home now and dhe is doing OK as long as on nurofen / calpol but once it wears off her temp goes up again. We don't have the throat swab back yet and she completely refusing to take the penicillin antibiotics we have been given, in any way shape or form. The hospital gave us azithromycin as a replacement but I'm hesitant to use it because of side effects and her being only 5yo. Has anyone used this antibiotic before? I'm worried that because I've only managed to get her to have small amounts of penicillin that the bacteria will become resistant and I suspect she will be exact he same with the azithromycin as they both taste foul. If she refuses both we have to go back to the hospital for plan B. I'm not sure whether to wait for the swab results until trying azithromycin (hopefully back by tomorrow) or to just try it now.
The Dr's seemed to lean towards it being a bacterial infection but one Dr said don't worry too much if you can't get the antibiotics in to her and one Dr said she definitely needs them so I've no idea what to do! Can anyone help?
