Baby chicken pox question

SophieG121 · 23/03/2022 19:54

My 5 month old DS has chicken pox (3 yr old DD had it a couple of weeks ago) and is especially sore around his genitals. I am using calamine lotion but wonder if nappy cream like metanium would be better for that area? Does anyone have any tips or suggestions please?

Oh poor love. I'd probably use sudocrem as I have a memory somewhere of people saying it helps soothe. Bicarb baths would help and you can get poxcilin or virasooth (I think it's called) which definitely help.

If you use any barrier cream just make sure he is completely dry before applying and if it doesn't clear up pop to the drs as it could get fungal and need steroids.

Hope he's better soon Flowers

I used porridge oats (in a leg of clean tights) instead of bicarb. It's soothing and helps try the spots out

Thank you. I've been doing oat baths but have ran out of oats now so may try the bicarb instead. Metanium seems to be helping to dry out the spots in his nappy area. DD started to feel better on day 4 so fingers crossed he will follow the same pattern and be better tomorrow 🤞
