3yo ear infection. Week 3.

DS has an ear infection. Both eardrums have perforated and we're on our second lot of antibiotics. Alternating Calpol and nutofen. All under GP instructions. We're obviously trying to make sure he eats, drinks plenty and rests. He's off nursery.

But this evening he's so uncomfortable and grumpy and his temperature which was coming down for a bit is just staying up in the 39+ area. What else can I do? At what point do I go back to the GP? Well, I think that might be a call for the morning. DH thinks he's overtired and that because he's not limp and floppy I don't need to worry, but I am worried. I've not slept for more than 4 hours a night since this started so I may be overtired myself.

Any advice, handholds or gentle grips gratefully received.

Sending a hand hold. Both my children have been plagued by ear infections so I know how difficult it can be. How long are you into your latest prescription of antibiotics? And did they take a swab to determine that they are the right antibiotics this time? If you're already two or more days in then I would go back to the GP tomorrow as they clearly aren't working (given fever still high) We were palmed off with amoxicillin constantly despite the fact it never worked for us.

We were referred to ENT in the end and very strong antibiotic ear drops were all that worked for us but they needed to be prescribed by a specialist. But anyway not trying to scaremonger as your DS's situation might be much more straightforward. But yes, go back if you're not seeing an improvement x

Hang in there. We're 2 weeks into a nasty virus and I feel your pain. The constant worry and hurting for them is just awful x
