Ulcers on tongue

We noticed yesterday that our 18 month old has a biggish (5p size) ulcer on her tongue and another smaller one. Any ideas what could have caused this and any tips on how to manage them other than calpol/nurofen. She is a bit fussy on food at the moment but I’m amazed how well she is actually eating to say how bad the ulcers look!

Any spots anywhere else? Hand foot and mouth is around and some kids only get the spots in the mouth.

Nothing anywhere else at all and apart from being a bit grumpy she doesn’t seem unwell at all, no temp etc.

Hard to say from the photo, but it looks similar to when my daughter had thrush in her mouth around 4mo. I think it's common in babies but not sure about toddlers? I would get it checked by a pharmacist/Gp.

Hope she recovers quickly whatever it is!

DD had something similar when she was small and was diagnosed with aphthous ulcers. It’s was a pretty rubbish time really as it got so sore she was unable to sleep for more than 30 mins. The gp gave her a form of antihistamine I think to help her sleep and within a week they were gone. My advice:don’t wait to get help if calpol isn’t covering it.
