My 9 year old daughter has a mole on the palm of her hand should I be worried about it?

No

Yes

Soubriquet · 13/03/2022 19:38

No. Is there anything wrong with the mole or is it the fact it’s on her hand?

Sitodeb · 13/03/2022 19:41

@AnxiousHeffalump just the fact it’s on her hand she’s had it about a year

My DD has a mole on the palm of her hand. I was diagnosed with melanoma last year, and so wanted to get it checked out, just in case. The GP referred her to the dermatologist, mainly due to my history, but the consultant wasn't concerned at all. Measured it and made a note on her record, told us to take a photo of it against a ruler measurement so we could just monitor and track, and to ask for referral again if it changed in any way. Definitely get it checked out, better safe than sorry.

Both my kids have one, on the base of their thumb, the squishy area. one is 6 the other 2 - been there since birth I think.

Not my hand but I’ve had a mole on the sole of my foot from about the age of 9, I’m now 49, it’s never changed etc.

My daughter has one on the inside of her wrist which worried me as well. I asked a dermatologist about it (when I was having a mole removed) and she said you can get moles absolutely anywhere and it wasn't particularly worrying in itself.

I have one on the end of my toe and she told me to keep an eye on that, but more so because it's not somewhere you often look so changes could go unnoticed.

If it's new/recent, growing/changing, then show it to your GP. For your own peace of mind, also take photos with a measure beside the mole then you can monitor any later changes.

My daughter has one on the palm of her hand too and the bottom of her foot, never really assumed it was anything sinister.
