My ds has dislocated his hip playing football 🙄 All very traumatic with air ambulance etc. it happened about 4.30 and we didn’t get to hospital until 9ish , into surgery at 10.30 , open surgery to put it back in and assess. He’s just coming out of resus now and my mind is racing with what the next few days hold.

Does anyone have any experience or advice with hip trauma/dislocation? Is there anything I can do to help him or prepare ?

Tia

My ds never dislocated his hip, but had frequent inflamed hip joints from his genetic disease and basically couldn't walk or even sit when they were bad. He was once bed ridden for 6 weeks with inflamed hip joints. Sorry to be negative, but I suspect you will need to prepare for at home schooling etc. for some time to come.
Hopefully some Mumsnet doctor will come on and tell me I'm talking nonsense.

Focus on getting some sleep for tonight. The hospital staff will guide you and at 15, he's likely to make a good recovery. Will probably be on crutches for a couple of months as iirc it can take up to three for a full recovery. He'll also probably need physio.
