Suspected Phimosis 20 Month Old

Hi,

Looking for some advice. My 20 month old son has been holding his nappy area for the last couple of weeks and saying "pee pee" while looking uncomfortable. I thought he was just telling me he is urinating but something didn't feel right. We saw the GP who said he looks like he has phimosis which is very common apparently in infants. I have noticed the hole in his penis is very small and his penis seems to look slimmer towards the front and larger to the back similar to a tear drop shape. The GP has arranged for him to be referred to a urologist to see if a steroid cream will help or partial circumcision. He has advised we try stretching the skin slightly but that scares the life out of me.

I am very scared with the sound of this all. Anyone have any advice or been through this? I am happy to go private if needs be but i just wanted to know what others did in this situation. Thanks

Physiological phimosis in a 20 month old is the norm, and trying to stretch it out could cause artificial division of adhesions which would be painful and could ultimately result in scar tissue formation. I wouldn't do anything until you've seen the urologist and confirmed whether there actually is an issue.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me.

You are right. I have not touched it as i have been too scared he is still so small. I will be seeing the Urologist next week so hopefully he can put my mind to rest. Thanks

Snap! His Willy also ballooned up when doing wees which you probably don't see as he's still in nappies.

GP prescribed a hydrocortisone cream and it TOTALLY works. Put it on every morning and night and after a week or so gently try to pull it back and you'll find that the hole gets bigger.

Ask for that whilst waiting for the urologist.
