Recurrent chapped skin on 6 year old’s chin?

DS has a recurrent rash which started in October and which is simply not clearing up. He had it aged four and it cleared up after hydrocortisone cream. It’s like chapped skin rather than a rash and we’ve excluded things like impetigo. We don’t think it’s a topical reaction as none of the products in the house have changed. We do think the cold weather exacerbates it.

So far we’ve tried lashings of Aveeno, Vaseline, Fucidin from the GP (cleared up about 80% of it but came back once we stopped using it), and hydrocortisone cream. The latter has done a great job but the minute we stop using it the chapped area comes back within days.

We are obviously going to revert to the GP for the third time but wondered if anyone has had anything similar? He has no underlying issues that we’re aware of, eats well (albeit limited diet but he has vitamins), sleeps well, etc. The rest of his skin is in perfect condition.

My 9yo son suffers with this too. Even around his nostrils was all sore, and cracked. I just keep reapplying lip balm which is helping. He gets it most winters tbh.
