So hard to get a GP app

My one year has had a fever since Thursday, I managed to get a phone app with doctor on Monday, he asked me to send him some pics and said he would call me back. He hasn't called back. My son still has a fever. I've called to chase it up yesterday and today. Today the receptionist said they would book me in for another phone app on Friday!! I said I'm not asking for another appointment I'm asking for the original one to be completed. She said she would remind the doctor. I'm not really convinced.

I hate being pushy because I know there's only one doctor and one nurse in this surgery but what am I supposed to do?! He's a very thorough doctor but he's obviously got too much to do.

I'm pissed off and feel like I'm failing my son.

Do they have a nurse or someone else you could talk to?

Wnikat · 23/02/2022 16:42

Call 111 and they will find you some way to be seen.

Wnikat · 23/02/2022 16:43

Also you’re not being pushy, a baby with more than 5 days of fever definitely needs to be seen

Violetmo0n · 23/02/2022 16:49

They should be seeing a 1 year old the same day you first rang!
Not being pushy, he needs seen ASAP

PeacefulPrune · 23/02/2022 17:47

Thanks everyone. I just rang 111, they said some one will call me back. I've been so hesitate to call 111 because when my older son was little they sent us to a&e, waited there for hours to be given a dose of Calpol and sent home. It was obviously over cautious.

I don't think my son needs to go to hospital I just think he needs to be seen by a doctor and probably prescribed antibiotics.

How is your son op?
What other symptoms?

PeacefulPrune · 23/02/2022 20:25

He's asleep now. He's been lathargic all day which is so unlike him, he normally doesnt stay stil for a minute. He had a bad heat rash all over his body but that mainly seems to have cleared. He has some spots on his face and back. He has a cough and is very snotty. Off his food.

I just got the callback from 111, they said I should expect another call and then maybe someone will come out to see him.

Could have written this myself.

So annoyed today with the GP.... dd has fever / chesty cough/ sneezing / super tired since Sunday. Called 111 last night, made me realise it's not bad enough for a&e so said I'd just speak w GP today (which was the right decision cause by 10pm I still hadn't got a call back).

Called at 8, no appointments for children, called back at 10 as told, all gone. Called back at 11 as told, again too late, all gone. Asked to call back at 1, I gave up and had to focus on my poorly one. I mean wtf are you meant to do?! I thought children should be seen that day! Now I'm just debating if another day of calpol 4 hourly is going to do her any harm 🤦🏻‍♀️

Best of luck OP, I'm in it with you. We'll get through it xx

My daughter must have the same bug! Mild fever on and off since Friday, coughing and snotty, a bit off her food and very tired. I was going to try the GP tomorrow... hope everyone's little ones feel better soon!

PeacefulPrune · 23/02/2022 21:43

@ramen7 @tumtitum sorry to hear yours aren't well too.

So I got the next call back and they wanted me to go somewhere which is very difficult to drive to and difficult to park, to take him to be seen by a doctor. I just burst into tears because I'm not great at driving at the best of times never mind to that area, in the dark, in the rain, with a crying baby. It's not just not going to happen. Anyway they said someone else will call me back for a phone appointment. It's so frustrating. All I think he needs is a prescription for antibiotics or at least to be seen by a doctor in the day.

Let me know how you get in with yours.
