Acid reflux

My newborn has acid reflux and I don't know what to do to help her. Last night she couldn't stop eating as it hurt, but also couldn't keep eating because she was too full. She then throws up constantly and her mouth seems in pain before feeding by bottle (she sticks her tongue out and her face looks like she's in pain)

She's usually on 130ml every 2.5 hours.

Doctors won't prescribe anything as she's not 4 weeks yet, plus she came 17 days early (due date is today) so they don't want to prescribe her anything until she's at least 6 weeks.

Aptimel seems to make it 100% times worse so she's currently on cow and gate.

Not able to breast feed due to her issues when she was first born and being in the NICU. When I tried expressing for a few days she would throw every drop of it up.

I know they usually grow out of this, but it's so sad to see her in pain 😔😢

Midwife is coming to see her later today, but I don't think she will be able to do much without a gp to prescribe something to help her

Have you tried a milk for reflux?

@dementedpixie

Have you tried a milk for reflux?
Yeah, it seems to make her worse. With cow and gate she is in pain prior to the feed, and throws up afterwards a few times but with anti reflux milk she's in constant pain. Like can't stop feeding because it hurts, but so full that she has to stop, and then spends hours awake screaming.

The anti reflux milk does stop her throwing up, but seems to get worse symptoms! 😢

CAROBEL powder available from a pharmacy added to normal cow amd gate or expressed milk should help and you xan control how thick it is qs some anti reflux milks may be too thick and thus cause constipation which may be what's causing her more pain

Have you tried Infacol? I think you can give it from birth,. It helped DS a bit until he was old enough to have Gaviscon and other GERD meds.

I meant to add that my expressed breastmilk is really thin and dc used to throw up right after having it but with carobel it makes it easier to keep it down but you would need the next size teat up whichever milk you use with carobel.
Its so tough with a refluxy baby and we are managing it at 3 months with the carobel and imeprazole but I cant wait until I can wean dc as that's when it starts to get better
