Hi, looking for some advice.

My daughter is 5 months old and has cmpa, she's on nutramigen and we had the HV out yesterday for her 4/5 month review. She's barely making it 2-3 hours before she's wanting another bottle, and during the night she's waking every 2 hours and is screaming in pain, pulling her legs up to her chest, scratching etc and the only thing that settles her is a bottle. The HV yesterday gave me the go ahead to slowly start weaning her in the hopes that she'll go longer during the night because I am honestly absolutely exhausted, I can't even try get her back to sleep in her own bed anymore because I am lacking sleep so much I'll do anything to get back to sleep quickly and I am hating myself for it. I'm scared she now won't sleep in her own bed and I've made this worse for myself but I am shattered as she's never slept longer than two hours at a time since she's been born. The HV said yesterday she's probably got colic as she's screaming during night and pulling her legs up and this happens all night until morning when she finally manages to fart. She physically cannot fart easily, I've even done a baby massage class to try help and still can't ever get any wind out her. Can anyone suggest anything for colic that is suitable for cmpa too? Also when will she grow out of this?? She's 5 months now so I would have thought she'd of grown out of it by now?? I'm absolutely exhausted, I need to get her to sleep in her own bed but I can't seem to help with her wind, please help😭😭

Does she have reflux too?

I’d be more inclined to try a different formula like Neocate - maybe the Nutramigen isn’t broken down enough for her.

I agree with @Vicky1989x IIRC Nutramigen is hydrolysed ie the cow milk proteins are broken down. Babies who don't do well on these types of formula can try an amino acid based formula which has no cow milk proteins in. Definitely ask your HV for a prescription.

My wee one was the same with CMPA and we weaned around the same age. We also did sleep training to break the rocking to sleep habit we had got into. Over time he needed more and more rocking to get him to sleep till we were rocking for over an hour. He would fall asleep then as soon as his bum touched the mattress, he'd wake up, and the whole carry on would start again. I was exhausted.

Things did get much better but I remember the bone crushing exhaustion so completely sympathise as you are in the thick of it xx

That sounds like reflux to me, it always got worse around teething too. Can you visit your GP and ask for Zantac?

She had reflux on the alumentium and got gaviscone for it but that just made her scream and scream so we stopped the gaviscone and I waited a few weeks until I thought it would be out her system but nothing changed, she was just constantly screaming so that's why she was changed to nutramigen! I asked whether I could get a completely dairy free formula cause I think that's why she's got loads of wind she can't get out and they said it'll be colic but surely at 5 months old colic shouldn't still be this bad with her? Xxx

Yeah that was my thought when nothing was changing with this milk, I'm more thinking that this milk isn't agreeing with her than her having colic! But the HV said nope it's colic, try colic stuff and see if it helps, if not it's just one of these things I'll have to deal with😫 but with her being 5 months old I'm finding it hard to believe it'll be colic? I've changed her to her cot, right next to my bed and the mattress is softer than her next to me crib and last night she actually took herself off to sleep in it without needing rocked but 50mins later, up screaming, won't settle, finally got her settled and same as you as soon as I put her back and her bum hit the mattress she was up and screaming😫 I've moved the next to me crib downstairs and I'm trying to get her to nap in there when she needs one in the hope she'll be able to go longer during the night in her own bed but this wind is a problem! I've bought dentinox to try, she's always used anti colic bottles etc but something just still isn't right xxx

She had reflux on the alumentium but when she got swapped to nutramigen it got a lot better, could she go from having normal reflux to silent reflux??
