Painful red mark on dd back

My 9 year old daughter woke up in pain saying her side felt sharp, when I looked it's very red, slightly swollen and oozy ! The only thing I could think of was maybe a heat blister from her hot water bottle that had burst ? Any ideas ?

Draw a line around the red mark. Keep an eye on it. If it starts tracking outwards you need some medical advice.

Susu49 · 12/02/2022 09:24

How big is it?

Isntisironic1 · 12/02/2022 09:25

Could be a spider bite, I would do as the poster above has said and draw a circle around it and keep an eye on it

Theunamedcat · 12/02/2022 09:26

Well if the hot water bottle has burst why would you assume its anything other than that

TerryChoc · 12/02/2022 09:28

@Theunamedcat I think OP meant a blister had burst, not the hot water bottle.

Definitely keep an eye and get it checked if it grows or becomes worse.

lollipoprainbow · 12/02/2022 09:55

Yes I meant the blister had burst not the hot water bottle ! I've looked again and there is a little blister on her skin still that hasn't burst.

The hit water bottle must have been away too hot if it's caused burns!

Could it be chicken pox or shingles if she's had CP?

Have you got a photo OP?

GeneLovesJezebel · 12/02/2022 10:01

Can you link a photo ?

endofagain · 12/02/2022 10:04

Depends on the size, but I too thought chicken pox or shingles. It is strange but I know so many people who have had shingles recently. I don't know if it is just coincidence or if it is suddenly more common.

Spider bites also blister, could you attach a picture?

Ooh that's quite large - and looks painful.

Doesn't look like CP or shingles.

Is your DS otherwise well?

I think I'd be getting that checked.

lollipoprainbow · 12/02/2022 10:59

@Seeline yes she's fine in herself and the redness has gone down.

OP posts:
Guacamoleontoast · 12/02/2022 11:00

I would take her to the GP to get it looked at.

lollipoprainbow · 12/02/2022 11:05

She wouldn't let me anywhere near it this morning or let me touch it but she will now and she says it doesn't hurt. I won't be able to get a gp appointment today. I'll keep an eye on it.

PoppityBoo · 12/02/2022 11:20

My shingles looked extremely similar and was in the same place. Has she had chickenpox before? Shingles is a reactivation of the dormant chicken pox virus.

lollipoprainbow · 12/02/2022 11:34

@PoppityBoo yes she's had chickenpox

OP posts:
Sprucewillis · 12/02/2022 11:36

Could be impetigo which is very infectious and painful. She will need antibiotics from GP.

HoldenCaulfieldismyhomeboy · 14/02/2022 00:27

Looks similar to the mark I got when I accidentally burnt myself on my hot water bottle. Was very painful to touch.
