Toddler toenails

Hi - my 2.5 year old DS has toenails that seem to be curling round his toes if that makes sense. We trim them every few weeks but are worried that they may start digging in to his toes if we don't stay on top of it (grim). Is this fairly common, or is it because his shoes are too small? They seem like they fit fine, so just wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

How long is every few weeks?

I used to have to do mine DC weekly. They seemed to grow really fast. Nowhere near as fast growing now as teen.

Every couple of weeks I'd say. USually when my husband notices as I tend to just get socks on and off quite quickly.

So cut them more often.

Danikm151 · 09/02/2022 13:04

Yeah my son’s seem to curl- need to be done at least once a week

My girls toenails do the same and sometimes I'm 😮 at the length and it looks like it cld start growing in to the skin. Thankfully that's never happened and I try to make sure I don't forget about them so check regularly.

Hi there,
No insight- only to say that our toddler (2.5) has that exact same- toe nails curling around the front where you'd be worried that they grow into the skin..
It seems to be difficult to cut them as well seeing as one part of the scissors needs to be under the toenail...

Mine were like this as a child - and still grow curled over the top of my fingers!

My son almost 2 gets the same thing!

My 3.5 year old's are the same, it's really weird! In fact you've reminded me to check tonight, they probably need a trim. They don't seem to hurt him but they look like they should.

It’s nothing to worry about if they’re otherwise in good health- their nails are still quite soft at that age and that’s why they kind of bend with the toe. They just aren’t as thick as an adults which grow straight.

Oh same here for my son. He hates having them cut as well!
