Hi
I have soon to be 3 years old toddler who refuses to brush her teeth. When she was smaller she brushed her teeth regularly.
I've tried fun brushes different toothpaste etc I can't force her to do it and can't persuade.
Anything that helped parents in similar situation?
Thanks

Have you tried an electric one and bribery

The hey duggee toothbrushing video?

MondayYogurt · 04/02/2022 18:27

Blippi video

Paw patrol electric toothbrush (about £2 in Savers), strawberry toothpaste and a morning rendition of 'this is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth...) sat on the bathroom floor looking into a mirror! Smile

Dd liked the Elmo brush your teeth video and the blippi one too

SparkleSky · 04/02/2022 21:12

We hold dd and brush if she doesn't co-orporate with the hey duggee etc videos. She is happy to have her teeth brushed in the morning but after dinner she's not always keen. It's one of the only things I'm strict about and it's non-negotiable. I don't want her to need fillings and teeth taken out in her early years due to decay.

Have you explained why she needs to brush them? My DS got on board when he realised he didn’t want yellow or brown teeth or teeth with holes Grin also an electric toothbrush, the oral b ones are Disney branded and really good. He loves putting it on charge as part of his routine

Colgate Magik toothbrush says age 5 but absolute game changer for my 3 year old I now have him asking to beat the germs 3/4/5 times a days rather than fighting to get the toothbrush in his mouth morning and night

Smurf123 · 04/02/2022 21:30

It comes with an app that shows them brushing and defeating the germs as they brush using augmented reality

Toothbrush songs eg duggee or Mickey Mouse. A choice of toothbrush we have a lion or barbie and I let her put her own toothpaste on top. Iv found involving her really helps.

I feel your pain, my DD must have horrible teeth. I've only managed to brush her teeth a few times, she just moves her head and clamps her teeth shut. I do however give her a tooth brush twice a day to try. She's off to the dentists soon, if they dentist can get a look in there. I don't know how people force them, even in a headlock I wouldn't be able to. I suppose it depends on your child's will. And I'm sure headlocks are ideal parenting.

pickledonionsandwine · 04/02/2022 22:26

*aren't 🥸 well maybe they are

Lovinglavidaloca · 04/02/2022 22:28

Please do it. Honestly, pin them down if you have to but just get it done.

mayflower21 · 07/02/2022 23:00

Thanks all for the advice! Have to come up with different tricks each time!
But the toothbrush songs worked today!
Thank you @pickledonionsandwine, helps to know someone else in the same boat. I do the same give her the toothbrush to try, she didn't mind it that much before!

I'll definitely be checking that magik toothbrush that you can use with an app! Sounds like fun! @Smurf123
