Hi all, Im worried sick!!! My dd(11) has been for a specialist eye appointment today and her optic nerves are swollen. She has a MRI tomorrow morning to see if it’s a brain tumour!! The specialist said openly in front of my daughter “oh yes, there swollen, it could be fluid or it could be a tumour!” I was devastated. Any hope would be welcome x

That's great news! I know what you mean about lots of tests and waiting around, but I'm pleased they were so thorough with your DD too; they were with mine. She also has drusen (which is what the optician had reassured me about, that was why I didn't think for a minute it would be anything else!). I think they just monitor drusen so hopefully your DD has escaped any further tests. You must be so relieved and I'm thrilled the outcome was better than ours!

You must be so utterly relieved OP. I was literally shaking with anxiety when I was told my dd's may well be 'something sinister', and then it was looking like IIH was the most likely of the headaches and swollen optic nerves.

Luckily she also has drusen, but they will keep monitoring her eyes to make sure the drusen aren't masking anything else which may be causing the headaches.

Like Rockinggently's dd mine also had a failed lumber puncture first time, so it seems this is not uncommon, although incredibly stressful going in for the second attempt with a very anxious teenager!

Wishing all sufferers the very best wishes. Xx
