4 year olds toe nail came off

Just went to cut my DDs (4) toe nails and noticed that on her big toe the nail was coming away at the nail bed, it looked almost brownish and very dry. As soon as I cut the nail it started to come off. She now has a bare nail bed, do I need to get her seen or just put a plaster on it or something?

Similar thing happened to my daughter it was a bit tender so she had a plaster on for a couple of days then it was fine. Took ages to grow back. Take her if it starts to cause a lot of pain/looks swollen/very red/infected etc

Ah great thank you for the advice! I had no idea what to do. Hope your little one's nail is all healed now

It's happened to me a couple of times but my little toe. I was quite shocked each time!

Is there a tiny bit of nail growing at the bottom?

With mine, they eventually grew back with no problems but as PP said keep an eye on it in case it gets infected.

This happened to my sons big toe nail. It grew back perfectly. I’d forgotten until I read this. It was upsetting at the time as he was only two.

Also I just left it and it got better. It was quite interesting to see it come back and it did t take that long.

I've heard that can happen some weeks after hand foot and mouth disease. Has she had that recently?

I was about to mention hand foot and mouth too. My twins have had it twice and both times about a month after nails come from fingers and toes Confused
