Vaccination without consent

Hi, just wondering about the rules on nasal flu vaccination. I did NOT give consent to the school to get my daughter the nasal flu vaccination. She has been ill on the date of the first vaccination and bugs were coming and going. She could go to school, but was not well100%. She came home yesterday that she had the vaccination without me signing the consent form. Do not have to add that she coughing like hell and ill. No sleep all night .. I am completely angry!

@ZaraBananaAnd your son may be fine now as many vaccines are cell based rather than egg grown. Worth checking.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/12/2021 21:22

If someone ‘cannot have it for medical reasons’ they wouldn’t have had the first dose for the school to give a double dose

Stop using you clarity and logic @SW1amp sheesh.

Skybooks · 23/12/2021 21:23

Where are you that schools were open yesterday?

SleepingStandingUp · 23/12/2021 21:24

Not ideal but I can’t get worked up because it’s done and I’ve always had dc vaccinated

So, I don't care if your child was vaccinated without your consent because I consented for mine?

Some state schools near me finished today (23rd).

They might have had the JAB though and then school give the nasal spray, and the nasal spray being the one which they cannot have for medical reasons
BigBenji · 23/12/2021 21:31

School was open yesterday and the nurses were in to vaccinate children so close to Christmas, on what I assume was the last day of term?Hmm

Seems odd.

nadgersbadgers · 23/12/2021 21:37

I get the feeling that no sense nor reason will prevail on this thread.

It's a consent issue. Not a vaccine issue. Although I don't agree with the OPs stance on vaccines. The concept that her immature immune system has been ok for the last 5 years so why now immunise makes me wonder if your DD has been exposed to tetanus? Measles?

Ho hum. Bet her father signed the consent form. Good job too. Merry Christmas

WonderfulYou · 23/12/2021 21:44

I completely agree.

I am pro-vaccination and my DD has always had hers but if I hadn’t given my consent then I would be extremely angry and upset - why bother with consent forms else.

Soontobe60 · 23/12/2021 21:46

@JellybeanZs

He says he did not, but I am the main carer and if it turns out he did over ruled me I will take him back to court.
If he has parental responsibility he can give consent. He doesn’t need your permission.
Soontobe60 · 23/12/2021 21:48

@JellybeanZs

I am sure that 40 degrees fever , cough and being sorry for herself. Barking like a dog is not really a “yawn”. But thank you for the advice. I am not sure what she has intolerance for, but this is not funny.
If she’s that ill, why are you not at A+E?
Kitkat151 · 23/12/2021 21:52

@UrsulaBursula

I’d be fuming

Regardless of her age- if she’s under 16; she’s a minor and at no legal age to consent to medical care.

Im not sure why other posters are side tracking this and suggesting because this is the flu vaccine - it’s okay.

You don’t need to be 16 to consent to healthcare
ChateauMargaux · 24/12/2021 00:28

@JellybeanZs. This is a good thing to read regarding consent and vaccinations.. www.gov.uk/government/publications/consent-the-green-book-chapter-2 including this.

'Although the consent of 1 person with parental responsibility is usually suffcient (see Section 2(7) of the Children Act 1989), if 1 parent agrees to immunisation but the other disagrees, the immunisation should not be carried out unless both parents can agree to immunisation or there is a specifc court approval that the immunisation is in the best interests of the child.'

If you need further information on how to approach this with the school.. PM me. As you can tell from the response you have had here, many believe that if the vaccination is something they agree with, it doesn't matter that legally required consent was not in place. This is not what the government thinks, at least in writing where lawyers and experts in human rights have had input to creation of the policies that health professionals are legally obliged to comply with.

LonginesPrime · 24/12/2021 01:36

She has been ill on the date of the first vaccination and bugs were coming and going.

Does that mean that this was the second session of vaccinations to catch all the pupils who missed it the first time around?

Did you consent to it the first time but then she didn't have it because she was ill then?

Correct. But the DC in question here is 5, and so is clearly not going to be assessed as competent

Yes we check every year and they still refuse to let him. He’s 15 now and I was told by my pharmacy there’s an egg free flu jab but they can vaccinate under 16 and my gp surgery said they don’t have that one 🤦‍♀️

ZaraBananaAnd · 24/12/2021 09:59

*can’t vaccinate under 16

Arabelladrinkstea · 24/12/2021 10:00

I’m so sorry this has happened - I would cause absolute Merry hell about this!
You can not allow children to have medical procedures without consent.

doyouwantachuffedybadge · 24/12/2021 10:10

All these saying the father can give permission are wrong. If one parent is against vaccinations then the child can't have vaccinations - medical professionals can NOT administer them. I know this because I can't get my child vaccinated as their father wont give permission, the GP won't do it. I would have to go to court- again - and they would probably over ride his refusal to vaccinate, but until a court order is received there is nothing I can do.

If you submitted a form saying no, and the father somehow got hold of another form saying yes then they shouldnt have give the vaccination.

How on earth do they know though? They don’t ever ask for both parents to sign the form. It’s emailed through and one parent fills it in.

I don't believe this happened tbh
AppleCrumbleForBreakfast · 24/12/2021 14:12

I can't believe people are fussing the point about the kid being in school. Hmm ffs, like THAT's the issue.

This is very worrying. But tragically not surprising. This is the way we are heading. People are rabid for vaccines these days.

Tillymintpolo · 24/12/2021 14:35

I can’t believe people think this is real
