Vaccination without consent

Hi, just wondering about the rules on nasal flu vaccination. I did NOT give consent to the school to get my daughter the nasal flu vaccination. She has been ill on the date of the first vaccination and bugs were coming and going. She could go to school, but was not well100%. She came home yesterday that she had the vaccination without me signing the consent form. Do not have to add that she coughing like hell and ill. No sleep all night .. I am completely angry!

Could the DC's father have given consent?

JellybeanZs · 23/12/2021 15:04

I try to work out what I need to do and whom I am
Going to send a complaint letter.

The flu clinic company? Not the NHS? Are businesses actually making money from vaccinating children in schools?

She'll mean organisation rather than company? Unless of course her region has decided to use a company rather than organise from its existing resources

He says he did not, but I am the main carer and if it turns out he did over ruled me I will take him back to court.

I am sure that 40 degrees fever , cough and being sorry for herself. Barking like a dog is not really a “yawn”. But thank you for the advice. I am not sure what she has intolerance for, but this is not funny.

Teacher here - seen it delivered in school for a few years now.

It’s delivered by the NHS and nurses come in to administer. Don’t complain to school because it’s literally nothing to do with them, though they should be able to pass on the relevant contact information.

Do you know she definitely had it? It’s a nasal spray not an injection at age 5. Just double check she definitely has.

I’d be really surprised as they have a pre printed list, populated from the online consent forms, and as the child goes in they highlight them off before giving the spray. They’re also collected from the classroom by a member of staff reading off the same list (so the whole class don’t have to traipse off to the flu spray room).

I’m just really surprised it could logistically happen if I’m honest given that’s two “checks” she’d have got through. Are you absolutely sure you didn’t fill in the consent form accidentally as it does also ask you to fill in a NON-consent form?

If he has any parental consent and has authorised it they will have legally been able to take his word. It doesn’t matter who the “main carer” is if both have parental consent.

Her illness will be nothing to do with the flu spray though.

If she was like this she should have been at home having a PCR!

Have you covid tested her? It sounds far more likely to be that than the flu spray but I imagine you’ve ruled that out.

Why was she at school with a fever?

If her Dad is on the birth certificate and has parental rights then he can consent.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/12/2021 15:15

If she's coughing so badly she couldn't sleep she wasn't well enough to go to school.

Unless you think the nasal spray did it, which it didn't.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 23/12/2021 15:16

Were you given a consent form to fill out (either physical or via email/online form) & did you clearly tick "I do not give consent"? Dc5(4) has to have the injection, so I declined consent for his nasal spray, gave it for my older 4 children. They rang me to double check he wasn't to have it. I seems odd that they wouldn't have contacted you at all. I'm all for the flu vaccine for children but yes, I would be making a formal complaint in this situation.

I did have to laugh the year I declined for all 4 (5 was under 6 months at the time) as the needed to have the injection. They rang me for each individual child, even though I told them all the details of the other 3 on the first call. The calls were back to back Hmm

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 23/12/2021 15:18

I've got a 5 year old too and we had to sign a consent for specifically for the flu nasal spray. the kids on the list were removed from the class room and taken elsewhere to have it. We were reminded several times that anyone not on the list would not receive the vaccine and those families were also given additional information regarding keeping safe from flu etc.

No way should a child slip through the net

You sent your child to school with a 40c temperature?

Anyway its the school nursing team you need to contact.

MakingTheBestOfIt · 23/12/2021 15:21

I think you need to rule out having missed an opt out form or Dad consenting before you go in guns blazing.

RoseAndRose · 23/12/2021 15:21

Patient info leaflet for the sniff:

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/3296/pil

Side effects can include fever, but they do not include coughing.

Get a covid PCR test straight away

Awrite · 23/12/2021 15:24

My two were always ill after flu vac so we stopped consenting. My children needed to refuse themselves as they were/are always called.

I am not anti-vac. Just prefer not to have the flu one so posters can stop the hysteria whenever they read that someone is not 100% onboard with every vaccine.

Doveyouknow · 23/12/2021 15:29

I am really surprised they gave it her without consent. I forgot to sign the form one year and they noticed and rang me. They normally check the forms very carefully. I would ask the school for contact details for the school nurse. The details should also be on the information your dd will have brought back from on school after the vaccine.

WonderfulYou · 23/12/2021 15:31

Are you in the UK?
This absolutely should not have happened.

Usually there is a list of the names of who have been given consent and only they get done. If the child is adamant they’re allowed it they would still need to get confirmation by ringing the parent.
It’s hard to say whether this is schools or the nurses fault.

WonderfulYou · 23/12/2021 15:32

It’s also extremely dangerous as she could have already had it which is why there was no consent.

WonderfulYou · 23/12/2021 15:33

Who did you speak to yesterday about it?

Why is having two 'extremely dangerous'?
tickingthebox73 · 23/12/2021 15:34

@JellybeanZs

So she is 5 years old. Why I am against it is my own business, my problem is :

She was not well enough for any dose!!!

Also we have survived without it so far, and she built up her own immunity without any artificial intervention and not being ill like now.. and she has intolerance against things like milk etc.

My anger is about giving it with out MY CONSENT.. and I think that is illegal.

YABU - there is no "immunity" to flu - its why we need a vaccination!
soapboxqueen · 23/12/2021 15:35

If your dd had a 40 degree fever she should not have been in school at act rate and in current circumstances should have been off getting a pcr test.

You need to contact your local immunisation team or school nursing service and ask them if she actually had the vaccine and then who gave permission for it.

The teams are usually pretty hot on this stuff so while it's possible she was vaccinated without consent, I think it's more likely a form was filled in by her dad.
