DS10 saying he's sad

My DS who's just 10 has been saying he feels sad for a few weeks now. I thought it was because he was sickening for Covid as he felt bad for a few days then tested positive for Covid and was more cheerful. Then he was ok albeit poorly with Covid.
I've asked if he's being bothered by anything/ anyone, reassuring him I will solve anything and there should be no secretes but he swears theres nothing he can think of. Just that he feels sad and doesn't know why. It's mainly at bed time and he's never been great at getting to sleep. DH says thinks it is attention and bedtime avoidance. He's had a thing for fidget toys of late and talked a lot about the kids with ADHD in class or autism and asked if there's something wrong with him. Says he struggles to concentrate but can game for hours (if I let him !) and can watch a tv programme. Maybe it's hormones and a surge of growth but it's upsetting seeing him cry. I think I'll take to GP too but I've got health anxiety and struggle to stay grounded. Dr Google says it's something awful but I'm hoping someone can say they've got some advice. I was looking at Kalms etc but they're not ok for kids. Bach flower remedies do a kids one so I'll buy that but there has to be an underlying reason for the worry. He's on the list for counselling at school but I've not gone down the CAHMS route yet.
