Has anyone ever experienced recurring Petechiae in their children?

My son has had it 3 times now, he had a blood test few weeks ago, all clear. It has just flared up again so took him to doctors who said they aren't worried.

Im just wondering if anyone else has been through the same?

I get it if I scratch my skin too hard? X

My daughter has had them a number of times when she's got hysterical - last time was after being held down for multiple cannulation attempts. Nothing to be concerned about apparently although not nice!

Shazzzzz · 19/12/2021 21:44

@Slagertha the last time he had it was for this reason!

@October2020 it gives me major anxiety!, im not too anxious about it this time as he only had the blood test 3 weeks ago but still i hate seeing it! It seems for no reason this time... unless someone has picked him up under his arms too hard as thats where it is

Yes, my son gets it. He has also had blood tests which came back fine. He gets under his arms too, I think from when I lift him out the bath. Also other random places sometimes. He’s had it years and I can’t seem to see any reason for it. I guess he is just sensitive to any tiny pressure on his skin. It used to worry me a lot but I’ve had to get used to it

Kleptronic · 19/12/2021 21:57

My son had it twice - all over his face and neck/shoulders - when under 5. It was very frightening, we sat in the Children's hospital all day twice for observations, but all was well, there was nothing wrong with him. Scary though!

RockinTheLockdown · 19/12/2021 22:00

DS 15 had it twice in the space of a month this time last year. Loads of tests done and all clear. No obvious reason for it happening. Very worrying.

AprilMayAnne · 19/12/2021 22:09

Where are they? My brother had them round his mouth when he was young and my mum was so worried, turns out he had developed a bored habit of sucking a glass onto his face 🙄

EewwwDavid · 19/12/2021 22:12

One of my dc gets it - it's a relatively harmless side effect of ITP. (An autoimmune thing that affects platelets).

Shazzzzz · 19/12/2021 23:15

@SwanShaped Thats reassuring, i think he is the same as the itching caused it last time which he was aggressively itching under his arms so probably just sensitive!

@Kleptronic @RockinTheLockdown yeah so scary! i was crying when we was in the hospital as i really did think we was gonna get bad news! I suppose you always think the worst although but he was fine, hes exactly the same now nothing wrong with him. I think it is starting to fade looks more pink than red now

@AprilMayAnne oh god at least he got to the bottom of it!🙈🙈 They are under his arms and a bit further down his side, none on his face/chest ect.. he could have been playing rough with his dad or anything i suppose. I wasnt the one whos bathed him for a few days it was his dad so it could have appeared a few days ago, i did bath time yesterday and noticed it then so he couldn't tell me if he had scratched or anything because you know what 5 year olds are like!

@EewwwDavid if it comes up again i am gonna ask if theres any possible reasons other than "it just happens" as ive read about vitimin deficiency also

Mine also gets it from sucking things onto his face. Like an empty yoghurt pot or something. Seeing as his bloods are normal, I’ve just had to assume that they’re ok and try to get over worrying about it. He doesn’t seem at all ill, doesn’t bruise easily, bleeds normally. It’s just these tiny dots. Did have a minor panic about the bloods coz they mentioned leukaemia. So that was a bit of a crazy 24 hours until they came back fine.

Shazzzzz · 20/12/2021 08:51

@SwanShaped Lukemia/ sepsis/ meningitis... i was going out my mind, luckily we was only waiting just over an hour for results but felt like 3 days, i literally just watched the clock go round

My daughter gets it around her eyes and around her mouth. She has reflux and it’s from coughing/retching. She also gets it if she has a temper tantrum and cries a lot!

A doctor told me that some kids just have more sensitive skin.

He had it on his right forearm. I was worried sick, thought we'd be told he had leukaemia. It went away after a few days them came back again a week later for a week or so. It hasn't happened again since then.

I tried to post a pic but couldn't attach it. I'll try again on another message.

Hope this works 🤞🏼
