Chest infection not getting any better!

My little boy is 3 in March and from last Thursday he's been really sick! He's pretty much slept all day all night since Thursday, hasn't eaten anything at all. Is drinking a little bit. Phoned doctors on Thursday they gave him antibiotics to take. Started them in the Friday and no improvement at all. He's slept all weekend, been so poorly. Just sat in the corner of the couch and slept.

Rang doctors back today who actually now wanted to see him. They said he's got a chest infection. His temp was fine, they checked his heart rate and that was fine. The doctor told me the hospital wouldn't really do anything he hasn't already done so wasn't worth taking him.

But I've never seen him so sick, he literally can't stay awake and he's not getting any better and he's been on antibiotics since Friday!

Doctor said it's just one of those things that takes time but I'm so worried about him. My friend works in our children's hospital and she seen him today and said bevquse he's drinking and has wet nappies (not as wet as they usually are) they wouldn't really do anything as the admission for this type of thing has to be severe because a lot of children are going to a&e with the same thing!

Just wondering if anyone else's child has been the same as my little boy and can give me some reassurance?

Thanks x

Personally if he was my child I’d be up to A and E with him. You know best and if he seems genuinely very unwell I’d want him properly checked over and wouldn’t trust the other opinions you’ve had.

I’d also head to A&E, that level of lethargy for so long isn’t normal and I would be pushing for a blood test to rule out any nasty infections or illnesses. Best of luck and hope he gets well soon x

My son had a bad chest infection was exactly as you describe. Lasted over 2 weeks Infact only just back on his feet properly 4 week later.
But I agree with everyone else a&e to get him checked if you feel like you need to. Mummy's know their children best.
Hope he's feeling better soon

Thanks everyone! I'm going to take him up at a&e this morning. Can I push for a blood test at the hospital or is that something I'd need to do at the doctors?

They should do it at the hospital as part of their investigations.

Good luck 💐
