Help with morning cough.

Dd caught some kind of cold/respiratory virus last week with a horrid cough. Covid negative.

Isn't coughing much during the day now. Manly not coughing at night now either the mornings are awful. I know it's likely down to post nasal drip and cold air etc but she wakes up coughing her guts up - literally.

Any ideas how I can help this? It sounds nasty!

Day time cough is mainly gone apart from the occasional old cough throughout the day.

Hi. My DS was the same. Tested negative for covid but had a nasty cough. How old is your DD? I asked our GP if he could use a nebuliser to clear the mucus GP said fine as long as only using saline 0.9%. Got one off Amazon, used it once morning and before bed and it worked a great. Within 3 days it cleared his cough. My DS is 6.

Sorry, should add that I was told you can only use it if you have had a chest infection ruled out. It is only aimed at mucus build up in nose and upper airway x

Fingers crossed for your DD that she gets over it soon. Nothing worse than seeing our kids when they not well x

Have you tried a cough medicine ?

Thank you all. Yes tried most things. Antihistamines, cough medicines, vicks etc. Thankfully after a couple hours or so she should be a lot better. It's just non stop coughing when she wakes. It's so cold which doesn't help.

She's generally not a cougher or when she does get a cough it's a day or two but she's had 3 or 4 coughs since September but barely got a sniffle last winter. Seems never ending already this autumn - winter so far.

My eldest spent most of his early years on antibiotics, steroids and an inhaler for coughs/chest infections that would last weeks (thankfully mainly outgrown now). Generally Dd has been luckier and not suffered too badly until recently! Not sure what's triggered it! She's had 3 negative covid tests with coughs in the last few months.
