Ear ache

DD 4 has been unwell now since Sunday and since last night has had earache. Out of hours doc said it's viral and just to keep pain relief going but she's screaming in agony and that's with us alternating ibuprofen and paracetamol. Any other tips of anything we can try? Thanks!

Try phoning and speaking to a different ooh dr.

I will never forgive the nurse practitioner who examined and declared toddler DC to be ‘fine, there’s nothing wrong’. We ended up going to A&E after a sleepless nights of wailing (failed to go earlier because NP made us feel we were being PFB). The A&E staff started telling us off for not getting DC seen earlier & were horrified when we said he’d been seen at the surgery and declared well just the day before,. DC ended up on the strongest antibiotics for their age and when we next saw the GP for something they actually commented that it must have been bad to have that prescribed!

I hope DD improves soon.

Go back or phone back to be seen. clearly something is going on if she’s that sore. Is there any discharge? Is she getting decent doses of para and brufen - for her weight sometimes you can under dose so ask for her to be weighed abs they can work it out for you. Sometimes a warm compress on the ear helps but at 4 I’d get proper medical advice. Poor thing, sounds horrible ear pain is really awful.

Thank you both. Waiting on a call back with another appointment. Seems to be taking a long time but hopefully she'll get seen soon and they will be able to give us something to help.

Try using warm compresses on it for her. Until the ear pops sometimes, relieving the pressure, it can be excruciating.
