10 week old conjunctivitis use optrex infected eye?

My 3 year old just had it and has passed it on. Do I need to take my 10 week old to hospital right now for this as I'm reading conflicting advice. Also is optrex infected eye prescribed for newborns? I'm about to ring 111.

My son suffered from this a lot as a baby. If you are breastfeeding then breast milk is the best thing to clean the eyes with. If not, I was always told just cooled boiled water to keep them clean.

Keep the eye clean using cool boiled water (or breastmilk). Use a clean cotton wool for each wipe wiping from the inside corner out.

I would only be going straight to hospital if there was redness around the eye itself but speak to 111 and see what they advise. Dd2 had a numer of eye infections from a few weeks old to around 9 months, due to a blocked tear duct, we always had to see the GP for drops due to her age.

I’ve just used these drops on my nearly 3 year old and I’m pretty sure it mentioned an age limit so definitely don’t use without medical advice first.

Contact doctor or 111 if in doubt but in my experience it clears up just as quick with cooked boiled water and cotton wool. If that doesn't work, contact doctor. I wouldn't be using the drops without speaking to at least a pharmacist first.
