Low neutrophils in 6 week old

My lo is almost 6 weeks old. Had a jaundice blood check 2 weeks ago and came back he had low neutrophils. Was told not to worry, probably a one off and they will retest in 2 weeks. Had the retest today and results were even lower 😔
Been told we’ll need another test in 2 weeks then if it’s still low will be referred to a haematologist at the children’s hospital.

Anyone experienced this? I’m worried sick 😭

My ds was neutropenic from 4 months till about 2 years old I wish I could say we ever got answers but we haven’t he is now 7 he did get referred to haematology he did have many infections and also was found to have an immunodeficiency. But he was feared to have a serious condition and he has done miles better then anyone thought. His neutrophils went back to normal around 2 years 9 months. It’s a very scary thing to deal with and very misunderstood if there’s anything specific you would like to ask please do I know it’s very hard to find information and good luck Flowers

This can occasionally point to a problem with the immune system, but in a well child isn't having serious infections it is more likely to turn out to be an "incidental finding" and sort itself out in time. This can be more than a few weeks unfortunately, and doctors would tend to rather keep seeing so you don't drop off the radar. Often the reserve supply of neutrophils in the bone marrow can be quite high even when there aren't many to see in the blood.

What was the update with this please? My premature IUGR baby was found to have low neutrophils at 3 weeks during a prolonged jaundice blood test. Her numbers have been gradually rising since 4 months and her last two results have been normal though one of those was a response to vaccines and we think she had a cold most recently.

She is negative for autoimmune neutropenia.
