Colic or CMPA?

Just looking for some advice, my daughter is 10 weeks old and since she was about 4-5 days old we've been having trouble with her tummy. She was breastfed exclusively for the first two weeks but she was having tummy issues and was taking up to an hour to latch on and within that hour she was getting so stressed out and worked up I felt it was probably better to swap to bottle where she was happy as she didn't have to work so hard for milk. When breast fed she was super constipated, her poos were green and solid and she would only go like once a day, she was the exact same when we switched to formula. She got put on lactulose by the doctor when she was around 5 weeks old which really helped with her stools but she was still so so so unsettled between each feed, the HV said it was colic but since starting bottle feeding I'd always been giving her infacol and she's always used anti colic bottles and I said to her I just don't think it's colic, I've tried gripe water, baby massage, baths etc and nothing seemed to help. I finally tried colief drops which breaks down the lactose in the milk making it easy for them to digest the milk and whilst she was on these she was pretty much a new baby, unfortunately I ran out and wasn't able to get any more from the local chemist and have ordered more online but since waiting on these coming she's been super super unsettled again. Her poo is seedy looking, and is quite stringy but I'm unsure weather that could be from the lactulose? Anyway, her skin is mostly clear, not dry or anything but sometimes she gets little blotches on her face. Her bowels and these little blotches plus the colic symptoms and the fact that only the colief is helping makes me believe she's got a cows milk intolerance or allergy but I just don't know😩 my other daughter had it but she had different symptoms

Hi,

I wouldn't change her milk without doctors advice. Doctor will put her on to lactose free milk if necessary

Also if the colic relief medication is working then stick with that as it takes time to build up in the system .

I was advised to use 1 type of medication instead of lots of different ones as you won't know which ones work and which ones don't.

Unfortunately with colic it is a waiting game, usually symptoms should reduce by 12 weeks and be completely gone by 4 or 5 months . This is based on my own experience with my daughter.

Hello,

I've not changed her milk, doctors at the paediatric hospital suggested she may have CMPA rather than colic but said to wait until she was better from bronchitis to get another doctors appointment to see about a change in milk. The colief drops is the only thing we are using, we don't use anything else and never used infacol/gripe water together, it was just one for a few weeks and when realised it was not doing anything I changed to the gripe water and tried that for a few weeks and again nothing so then I tried colief drops which seems to be the only thing to work! She's 11 weeks today, but still no change and if anything she's getting worse, her poos are green, mucusy and going very thick even though she is on lactulose and looks seedy, she's also sick a lot more now so I don't know if could maybe be reflux or what but no one is seeing her until she's completely better from bronchitis but we're currently on week 4 of it xx
