Umbilical hernia! Any experience?

My one year old has been a bit constipated over the past week, I think it's moving onto cow's milk that's been the problem! When changing her today I noticed what looks like a hernia on part of her belly button? I did a quick goggle (worst thing to do, I know) and I can see lots of advice for young babies with this but nothing for babies 1 year plus that suddenly have this! Will be speaking to doctor on Monday, but does anyone think the constipation could have caused it?

My 4 year old was diagnosed with umbilical hernia. When he was younger GPs didn't really want to do anything as they said it will resolve as he gets older, which it didn't. In this type of hernia basically, muscles didn't close where the umbilical cord once was (and straining could contribute I think). Surgical repair can be done but they probably wont advise it for 1 year olds unless it's urgent. As I understand, if part of a bowel is poking through this is a risk, but there could just be some fat tissue which is much less of a problem. Ultrasound will show this. Best of luck lilu38
