Was this hand foot and mouth?

My baby is 5months old. She was unwel with a cough and runny nose for a couple lf days then came out in a rash that looked like the picture. She was really irritable and seemed to be scratching at the rash near her eyes/eyebrows. We spoke to the doctor on the phone who wanted to see her because she was so young. The doctor said she was unsure but looked like the start of chickenpox. Its 3 days later and it looks like they have crusted over but didn't look like the pictures the doctor gave me in a leaflet about chickenpox. They were never fluid filled/never "popped" and remained only on her hands and face round her eyebrows/ears/mouth. Couldnt see anything inside her mouth but hard with a little baby. The spots seem to have just crusted over and dried out. She is alot better in herself yesterday and today.
I will post a pic of how its looking now...

How it is now (best pic of the crusting was round her ears) sorry if its not clear.

Fyi spoke to the doctor again (on the phone) who said could be HFM but our practice dont accept pics etc and the new doctor didnt feel like i should take her in as she was on the mend. Just wondering from an immunity perspective r.e. Chickenpox/HFM in the future i would like to know what shes actually had.

I have 2 older boys who have had neither so no real experience and they havent caught it so far either. Any thoughts appreciated! Thanks

That first pic does look like hfm in my opinion

Ancientdecs · 26/10/2021 22:50

Looks like HFM to me too.
Glad she is doing better!

SnugKnights · 26/10/2021 22:53

I think HFM as well, unfortunately you can catch it more than once so won’t mean DC won’t get it again.

sparklecrazy · 28/10/2021 07:37

Agree it definitely looks like HFM Sad

GemmaRuby · 28/10/2021 07:41

Apparently the difference is chicken pox spots start from the torso and work their way outwards, and HFM are on the extremities.
So if she never had any on her body, then probably not chicken pox. Although I’m sure that’s not 100% accurate.

My DD has it at moment, this is the second time round unfortunately Sad this was it at the beginning after 36 hours of fever, sore throat and cough.

Definitely looks like when my DS had HF&M

twinmum86 · 29/10/2021 18:16

Looks just like when mine had hf&m

blackcoffeenosleep · 29/10/2021 19:08

Just to update.. it definitely was HFM. DD is over it and back to her normal self now, just a couple of spots left on one hand.
I came down pretty hard with it though and am still covered in the painful itchy spots on my hands feet and face. Inside my mouth is awful. HFM as an adult is hell on earth.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that op. My dh got it as an adult and was really unwell too.
Hopefully your whole family will be immune now.
