Pale stool?

peachgreensunday · 25/10/2021 19:38

Ds stool is a real pale colour
bit of background:
Tummy pain on and off since Wednesday
Phone consultation with doctor who said it was constipation
1 sachet of movicol a day
Stool tonight was really pale which Ds then informed has been since yesterday morning
Been on hold to 111 for nearly 30 minutes
Google says it's a bad colour to be
Apart from complaining on and off about tummy pain Ds acting completely normal
Any advice or what to do?
111 are absolutely useless lately so don't hold out much hope when I get through either

It can be a sign of anaemia, but probably not that if it's come on suddenly..? Hopefully others with more medical knowledge will comment.

They may ask you what he has been eating and drinking and if his wee is a normal colour. Hope he feels better soon, how old is he.

He's 7 He's autistic so his diet is awful in general as he'll only eat certain foods mostly cheese

They may ask if his diet is mostly dairy in case that causes pale stools, poor wee soul.

I mentioned it to the dr last week as we had a phone consultation about my son and she said it was virus related. I had called about him having a cough for over 3 weeks

Houseofvelour · 25/10/2021 20:43

My youngest DD always has pale stools when teething

peachgreensunday · 26/10/2021 09:18

Still waiting to speak to a doctor
111 phoned in middle of the night just to say they were really busy and a doctor would be in touch
I said don't worry it's nearly morning I'll phone my own GP surgery
Spoke to them now waiting on a call back from a doctor for hopefully an appointment

Hope he’s okay. It’s probably nothing to worry about but with abdominal pain and pale stool I would be a bit concerned about gallstones - it’s quite uncommon for children to be affected so doctors probably won’t consider it in the same way they would if an adult had those symptoms.

Is he able to tell you where the pain is? My autistic twins seem to respond minimally to pain so I know it can be really difficult to establish how bad it is.

Hopefully it’s viral (what they say for everything until it’s lasted a little while!) but I would ask about it just in case and keep an eye out for any other symptoms (nausea, vomiting, jaundice etc)

My Ds is the opposite as in any pain is the end of the world for him he's very dramatic bless him so it's hard to establish what's sinister and what's not However doctor managed with some distraction skills to determine the pain wasn't anything to worry about and thinks it's still linked to constipation that's not quite cleared yet Also believes colour may be down to his diet
