Child sick then fine?

Hi
I started with a sickness bug on Saturday morning (diarrhoea and vomiting, a few of each ☹️) I’m an emetophobe so this was a big deal anyway but today my 6 year old had tummy ache on and off all morning, then had diarrhoea followed by a quick bout of vomiting. Weird thing is they immediately were fine, laughing away, talking about food 😮 and begged me for tea. After 4 hours of no symptoms and them crying because they were so hungry and going against my rising panic, I let them some toast. This was 2 and a half hours ago snd they have been fine.
I don’t get it? Are they likely to be ill again? How have they seemed ok so quickly?

Any help appreciated as her being sick is such a big deal to me and Im trying to stay calm!

Children often recover remarkably quickly. Feed if hungry, lots of fluids and keep an eye on them. Keep them away from people for a couple of days in case they are infectious. Other than that, enjoy your well child!

Thank you for advice. I’m listening for any noise as they sleep! Keeping them at home just incase!

Nice easy to digest food is good, like the toast you gave, white rice, etc. Nothing spicy or rich or acidic. Milk is best avoided for a couple of days. I also found that if I gave calpol to help with feeling unwell after a sickness bug it would irritate the stomach and cause another vomit, so I always avoid that.

Thank you for that. She had toast then wanted a plain biscuit. I wish I could eat what she ate and I was sick a few days ago!

This is my DC every time they are sick. Sick once then immediately fine and I'm stuck with them being their usual boisterous selves for 2 days until they can go back to school 🤣

Yes this is normal ! The hard part is keeping them home for 2 days when they feel fine.

I am the same when I have a sickness bug - always short lived, maybe half a day, and I can eat again immediately.

My DD only ever feels sick and nothing happens. Or vomits once. Then bounces off the walls asking for for food.

My youngest is like this. She’ll get visibly ill - washed out, clammy, crying with tummy ache. She’ll empty both ends and that’s it done with! It’s like she purges out the sickness, then is back completely to normal.

Thank you! She was fine last night and today. So weird!
